The Päijät-Häme District Court in Finland has sentenced Simon Ekpa, a prominent pro-Biafra agitator, to six years in prison after finding him guilty of terrorism-related offences.
The court ruled that Ekpa, a self-styled disciple of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), was guilty of inciting terrorism and participating in the activities of a terrorist organisation.
Ekpa, who is based in Finland, has been a controversial figure for his vocal support of separatist activities in Nigeria’s South-East region. His broadcasts and social media messages have repeatedly called for civil disobedience and actions that authorities say fuel unrest in the region.
