Nigeria’s men’s basketball team, D’Tigers, suffered their second defeat in the 2027 FIBA World Cup African qualifiers, falling 68–55 to Guinea on Saturday at the Salle Multidisciplinaire de Radès in Tunisia.
Guinea controlled the game from the opening tip, outplaying the Nigerians in what proved to be a largely one-sided affair. The loss comes on the heels of D’Tigers’ opening-day defeat to host nation Tunisia on Thursday.
Nigeria trailed 22–16 at the end of the first quarter and went further behind in the second, heading into the break with a 35–26 deficit. Although D’Tigers showed brief improvement in the third quarter, Guinea maintained their dominance and widened the gap in the final period to seal a 13-point victory.
D’Tigers will take on Rwanda on Sunday in their final game of the first phase of the opening round of qualifiers.
All teams in the group will meet again in the second phase, after which the top three sides will progress to the final qualifying round. Only five African teams will eventually secure places at the 2027 FIBA World Cup in Qatar, scheduled for August 27 to September 12.
