FG will revive abandoned Atlantic refinery project, says Lokpobiri

 Heineken Lokpobiri, minister of state for petroleum resources (oil), says the federal government will revive the abandoned Atlantic refinery project in Brass, Bayelsa state.

In a statement on Thursday, the minister recounted his inspection visit to Ewa-ama Road, which leads to the Brass Petroleum Products Terminal (BPPT) in Bayelsa state.

“I engaged with key stakeholders of the host community. I expressed deep dismay over the abandonment of the Atlantic Refinery project in Brass Local Government Area,” Lokpobiri said.

“The Federal Government remains committed to completing critical infrastructure projects that drive economic growth and improve livelihoods.

“I assured the community that this project will be thoroughly reviewed to ensure its eventual completion.

“I commended the people of Brass for their peaceful disposition despite the challenges posed by the refinery’s abandonment and other concerns.

“I urged them to sustain this peace, as stability is crucial for attracting further investments and development to the region.”

He said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration is determined to deliver on its developmental mandate.

Lokpobiri added that the government drives development and delivers key projects that benefit the Niger Delta people.

On November 26, 2024, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited said the Port Harcourt refinery has commenced crude oil processing.

Also, in December, Mele Kyari, the group chief executive officer (GCEO) of NNPC, said the Warri refinery has started production — but rehabilitation is not complete.
