FG speaks on gruesome murd£r of Arise TV journalist Somtochukwu Maduagwu


Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has described the death of Arise News anchor, Ms. Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, as a grievous loss to her family, colleagues, the Nigerian media, and the nation at large.

In a condolence letter addressed to the Chairman of Arise News, Chief Nduka Obaigbena, Idris expressed shock over the untimely passing of the 29-year-old journalist, who was also a lawyer.

“I write to convey our deepest condolences to you and the entire ARISE News family on the shocking and untimely death of your esteemed anchor, Ms. Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, who by every account was a vibrant and dedicated news anchor, consummate lawyer, and a model of professionalism whose work resonated with audiences across Nigeria and beyond,” the minister stated.

Idris lamented what he described as the “heinous incident that cut down a promising young journalist in her prime,” assuring that there will be a thorough investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding her death.

The minister further extended “heartfelt sympathy to the parents, siblings, colleagues, and all who knew and loved the late news anchor,” while praying that God grants them the fortitude to bear the loss.

Maduagwu fondly known as Sommie died in the early hours of Monday, September 29, 2025, following an armed robbery attack at her residence in Katampe, Abuja.

The Nigeria Police have since launched an investigation into the incident.
