The Federal Government has officially inaugurated an Inter-Ministerial Committee (IMC) tasked with steering the planning and execution of activities marking Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day celebration in 2025.

According to a statement issued by the Director of Information and Public Relations, Segun Imohiosen, at the inauguration, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, highlighted the significance of unity and patriotism. He described the anniversary as both a reflection on Nigeria’s journey and a call to collective action for the future. “This anniversary is a reminder of where we are coming from and where we are going from here… we must commit ourselves to building a nation where every citizen feels valued and empowered to contribute,” he said.

The month-long national celebration will kick off with a World Press Conference on September 25, followed by a series of events including a Juma’at Service and Women’s Activities on September 26, Youth Events and a Historical Arts Exhibition on September 27, a Church Service on September 28, a Public Lecture on September 29, culminating in the Presidential Broadcast and Independence Day Parade on October 1.

In a related development, the SGF also unveiled the Nigeria @65 Compendium Project workstation, developed in partnership with CherryAfrica Magazine. This initiative features a modern interview studio dedicated to a TV series profiling top government officials and their contributions to nation-building under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

The first interview featured SGF Akume, who encouraged Nigerians to celebrate the country’s achievements and maintain confidence in their leaders.

The compendium will compile an extensive archive documenting Nigeria’s historical milestones and development across political, economic, and social sectors, spanning pre-colonial to present times and highlighting the roles of government, the economy, and the Renewed Hope Agenda.
