The Federal Government has announced an increase in the fees for Nigerian passports, effective from September 1, 2025.
The announcement was made on Thursday, in a statement by the spokesperson for the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), A.S. Akinlabi.
According to Akinlabi, the review of passport fees is aimed at maintaining the quality and integrity of the Nigerian Standard Passport.

“The review, which only affects passport application fees made in Nigeria, now sets new fee thresholds for a 32-page passport with 5-year validity at ₦100,000 and a 64-page passport with 10-year validity at ₦200,000,” he said.
He further clarified that fees for Nigerians applying from abroad will remain unchanged. “Meanwhile, Nigerian passport application fees made by Nigerians in the diaspora remain $150 for a 32-page passport with 5-year validity and $230 for a 64-page passport with 10-year validity,” Akinlabi added.
The NIS emphasized that the increase is not meant to restrict access but to balance quality service delivery with affordability.
The agency reiterated its commitment to ensuring that passport services remain accessible to all Nigerians while enhancing operational efficiency.
The adjustment in fees is part of broader efforts by the government to modernize the passport issuance system and maintain high standards. Citizens planning to renew or apply for a new passport are advised to take note of the new fees to avoid any inconvenience.
The NIS has urged Nigerians to make use of official channels and avoid unauthorized agents to ensure smooth processing under the revised fee structure.
