In a decisive step to curb bullying in Nigerian schools, the Federal Ministry of Education (FME) has set up a seven-member committee tasked with addressing incidents of bullying and ensuring the safety of students nationwide.

A statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja by the Director of Press and Public Relations, Boriowo Folasade, reaffirmed the ministry’s dedication to fostering a secure and conducive learning environment for students.

Minister of Education, Maruf Olatunji Alausa, underscored the urgent need for effective measures to combat bullying, emphasizing its damaging psychological effects on students.

He reiterated the ministry’s stance on zero tolerance for bullying and called for the collective effort of school administrators, teachers, parents, and students in tackling the issue.

The newly established committee will investigate reported cases and ensure swift action, complementing the ongoing efforts of a 21-member team working on a National Policy on Anti-Bullying.

To encourage confidential reporting, the ministry has launched dedicated communication channels, including “Hotline (09012660044), an email platform (antibullying@education.gov.ng), and a WhatsApp line (08052536133),” the statement reads, ensuring that victims and witnesses can report incidents discreetly.

Alausa emphasized that this initiative aligns with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes education as a fundamental pillar for national development. He urged all stakeholders to support the initiative and actively contribute to creating a safer school environment across the country.
