The Federal Government has flaged off the distribution of food items and cash to 2,000 vulnerable populations and Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) in the North Eastern region.

Senior Special Assistant to the President on Special Needs and Equal Opportunities, Hon. Mohammed Abba Isa, launched the distribution of food palliatives in Damaturu, the state capital of Yobe.

He said the initiative aims to support at least 500 PWD households in Yobe and 2000 households in North East by providing essential food supplies, bags of rice, and cash support to cushion the effect of fuel subsidy removal.

‘‘About 2000 beneficiaries are being targeted in the Northeast because the region has the highest number of Persons With Disabilities as a result of the Boko-haram insurgency.

‘‘The number of internally displaced people, (IDPs) and vulnerable groups in the Northeast has skyrocketed as a result of the onslaught of the terrorist group,’’ he said.

He said the distribution would continue across the remaining states in the region, saying a committee was established to ensure a seamless exercise, working with locals to identify beneficiaries.

He added that the distribution event underscored Tinubu’s administration’s dedication to promoting social inclusion and reducing food insecurity among Nigeria’s most vulnerable populations, ensuring no one is left behind.
