FG Declares Friday September 5 Public Holiday, for Eid-ul-Mawlid



The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced Friday, September 5, 2025, as a public holiday to commemorate Eid-ul-Mawlid, the celebration of the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him). 

The declaration was made in a statement issued by the Ministry of Interior on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, in Abuja.

The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, congratulated the Muslim Ummah in Nigeria and worldwide, urging them to use the occasion to reflect on the virtues of peace, love, and compassion exemplified by the Prophet. 

He encouraged Nigerians to pray for the nation’s unity, progress, and economic stability during the celebrations.

The minister also called on all citizens, irrespective of religious beliefs, to promote harmony and tolerance, emphasizing the importance of unity in addressing the country’s challenges. 

The public holiday applies to all public and private sector workers, with normal activities expected to resume on Monday, September 8, 2025.

The Federal Government assured citizens of its commitment to fostering an environment of peace and mutual coexistence, wishing the Muslim community a joyful and spiritually fulfilling Eid-ul-Mawlid celebration.
