FG declares Friday public holiday for Eid-ul-Mawlid



The Federal Government has declared Friday, September 5, 2025, as a public holiday in commemoration of this year’s Eid-ul-Mawlid, the celebration of the birth of Prophet Muhammad (SAW).

This was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by Magdalene Ajani, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Interior, on behalf of Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo. Minister of Interior.

According to the statement, the government congratulated Muslims across Nigeria and the diaspora on the occasion, urging them to uphold the Prophet’s exemplary values of peace, love, humility, tolerance, and compassion.

It further appealed to Nigerians of all faiths to take advantage of the celebration to pray for the country’s peace, security, and stability, while also supporting government initiatives aimed at strengthening national unity and promoting sustainable development.

“The Minister of Interior wishes Muslims a joyous and peaceful Eid-ul-Mawlid celebration,” the statement read.

Eid-ul-Mawlid, observed in the third month of the Islamic calendar (Rabi’ al-Awwal), marks the birth of Prophet Muhammad.
