FG approves infrastructure contract for Maitama 2 District

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) Thursday approved an engineering infrastructure contract for Maitama 2 District, Abuja, Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Minister of FCT Mr Nyesom Wike said this while briefing State House correspondents at the end of the council meeting chaired by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

He said the Maitama 2 District project, covering about 786 hectares, had stalled for nearly five years.

“This contract was awarded about five years ago but did not take off. When Mr. President came, the Federal Executive Council terminated that contract. Today, FEC has approved a fresh contract for the engineering infrastructure of Maitama 2,” he said.

He said the Maitama 2 residential and commercial district aligned with President Tinubu’s vision to expand development across the FCT.

“Many people had been allocated land in Maitama 2 before this administration, but there was no provision of infrastructure. This is a very ambitious project, and we are determined to give it all the attention it deserves to open up that district,” he said.

The minister said the FEC also approved contracts for the official residences of heads of key courts.

“The the Federal Executive Council, as regards to the Federal Capital Territory, ratified the approval of the design and construction of residences of heads of courts, that is the president of the Court of Appeal, the president of industrial court, the chief judge of the Federal High Court, and the chief judge of the Federal Capital Territory court.

“Of course, you know that this has been flagged up and a consortium is ongoing for the residencies of the heads of court. Again, the Federal Council approved the provision of water to the satellite towns of Karu, karishi area, oruzo and Bwari.

“The last time, Mr. President inaugurated the provision of one of the greater Abuja water supply, and made a promise that this will be extended to the satellite towns. You also know that we have flagged off that project by the grace of God, we believe, by May next year that would have been inaugurated too.

“Thirdly, was the ratification for the rehabilitation job we did for the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Center. You’re aware that that project was awarded under emergency when Mr. President went to inaugurate the last ECOWAS parliament and directed that international conference center should be given the international standard it requires. Mr. President has also inaugurated that rehabilitation,” he said.
