The FCT Minister of State, Dr Mariya Mahmoud, has assured members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) posted to the territory that the administration is committed to providing the enabling environment required to keep the scheme viable.

Dr Mariya stated this on Tuesday at the swearing-in ceremony and oath taking for the 2024 Batch B Stream 1 orientation course for corps members at the NYSC Camp in Kubwa, Abuja.

The minister, who was represented by the Mandate Secretary for Social Development, Ibrahim Aminu, said the FCTA had an unwavering faith in the scheme, hence the need to provide the needed environment for the safety of the corps members.

She said, “Over the decades, implementation has proven that the orientation courses are a veritable transformational agent for leadership training and nation building.

“The training in camp is designed to prepare corps members fresh from a theoretical environment for the reality of self and national development. Therefore, always engage yourselves in activities that are beneficial.”

The FCT NYSC Coordinator, Mrs Winifred Shokpeka, advised the corps members to take the entrepreneurship training for self-reliance seriously which was imparted through the NYSC Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme.

She warned the corps members to desist from drug abuse and other anti-social activities.

City & Crime reports that a total of 2,473 corps members registered for the orientation course which comprised 961 males and 1,512 females.
