Fayose’s Brother Dumps PDP, Abandons Ekiti Governorship Bid

Otunba Emmanuel Fayose, younger brother of former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, has dramatically resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and withdrawn his candidacy for the party’s gubernatorial ticket ahead of the 2026 Ekiti State election, citing deep-seated betrayal and compromise by the party’s national leadership.

In a fiery press conference held in Abuja on Thursday, Emmanuel Fayose accused PDP Acting National Chairman Ambassador Iliya Damagum and National Secretary Senator Samuel Anyanwu of sabotaging the opposition’s prospects in Ekiti by colluding with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

“Credible information available to me reveals that the process of the PDP primaries for the Ekiti governorship election has already been compromised,” Fayose declared, warning that any candidate emerging from the process might not secure recognition from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to challenge APC incumbent Governor Biodun Oyebanji.

He described the primaries as a “kangaroo arrangement” and a “gamble with the hopes of our people,” adding that ceaseless internal wrangling and the anti-party activities of figures like his elder brother Ayodele—whom he previously lambasted for endorsing the APC—had rendered the PDP untenable in the state.

Fayose, a prominent PDP chieftain who declared his ambition in January 2025 with vows to “dislodge the Oyebanji-led government” and deliver inclusive governance, emphasized the difficulty of his decision but insisted it was compelled by the party’s dire state.

“I am using this occasion to formally announce my decision and that of my teeming supporters to resign our membership from the PDP,” he stated, urging followers to remain calm as he consults on his political future—hinting at potential alignment with another platform without immediate disclosure.

Efforts to reach PDP National Chairman Damagum for comment were unsuccessful, with no response to inquiries.
