Fayose: PDP “Decaying from the Head,” More Governors Set to Defect

Former Ekiti Governor Ayo Fayose has declared the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) beyond salvage, insisting its crisis stems from leadership rot at the top and predicting further high-profile exits ahead of the troubled national convention.

Speaking Tuesday on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Fayose used a stark analogy: “When fish decays from the body, you can salvage it, but when it decays from the head, you cannot salvage it.

Currently, the PDP has decayed from the head.”The outspoken PDP chieftain, aligned with the Nyesom Wike faction, reiterated his long-standing warnings about the party’s collapse.

“I have not come here for one day to deceive Nigerians about PDP, and I’ve not hidden the fact that I will remain in PDP,” he said. “But I’ve also not hidden that PDP is in trouble.

”Fayose claimed vindication after predicting three governors would defect, naming Douye Diri (Bayelsa), Peter Mbah (Enugu), and Darius Ishaku’s successor in Taraba as already gone or aligned with the ruling APC.

“Another one will leave very soon, Governor of Plateau will leave,” he warned. “And after Plateau, another will follow. When I return here, I’ll remind you.”

The PDP remains fractured ahead of its November 15–16 national convention in Ibadan, split between acting National Chairman Umar Damagum’s camp and Wike’s bloc.

Legal chaos compounds the crisis:

On October 31, a Federal High Court in Abuja halted the convention, citing invalid state congresses. Days later, on November 4, an Oyo State High Court ordered it to proceed.
