A police officer has died and another injured after a fatal accident involving a mixer truck on the Sani Abacha Expressway in Abuja on Wednesday afternoon.
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command confirmed the incident in a statement on Thursday, saying the crash occurred around 2:20 p.m. near the National Ecumenical Centre.
According to findings, the mixer truck, reportedly driven by Salman Usman of a construction firm based in Wuse Zone 5, lost control and rammed into the location where police personnel were carrying out official duties.

A statement by Josephine Adeh, Police Public Relations Officer, noted that the impact claimed the life of one officer and left another injured.
Police authorities described the incident as a stark reminder of the dangers officers face while enforcing safety and managing traffic across the nation’s capital.
The Command noted that the injured officer is currently receiving medical attention.
“The truck driver has been arrested, and other vehicles involved in the accident have been impounded for further investigation and mechanical inspection”, the statement read.
Miller Dantawaye, FCT Commissioner of Police, expressed deep sorrow over the loss, extended condolences to the family and colleagues of the deceased.
He also wished the injured officer a speedy recovery, assuring residents that a full investigation is underway and that due process will be followed to ensure justice.
