The family of reality television star Josephine Otabo, popularly known as Phyna, has announced the death of her sister, Ruth Otabo.

In a statement issued by their legal representatives, Eko Solicitors & Advocates, and signed by Justice Segun Ojienoh, the family confirmed that Ruth Otabo passed away in the early hours of Sunday, August 31, 2025, at about 6:30 a.m.

“With a heavy heart, the family regrets to announce the passing on to glory of their daughter, sister, and mother on this 31st day of August, 2025,” the statement read.

Ruth’s journey had been marked by resilience after a devastating accident shortly after her graduation, when she was hit by a Dangote truck. The accident led to the amputation of both her legs, forcing her to rebuild her life with immense courage.

The family noted that they are currently grieving and appealed for privacy as they mourn the loss of their loved one. Details of funeral arrangements will be communicated to the public at a later date.

The announcement has sparked an outpouring of condolences from friends, fans, and well-wishers of the Otabo family, especially supporters of Phyna, who rose to fame after winning Big Brother Naija Season 7.
