Nigeria’s U20 women’s team, the Falconets, have secured their maiden WAFU B U20 Girls Cup crown after a 3-0 win over Ghana’s Black Princesses at the Stade Omnisports d’Adjohoun on Tuesday morning.
Dominant start from the Falconets
The Falconets knew that victory would guarantee them the title, and they wasted no time taking control of the encounter.
Within 17 minutes, Janet Akekoromowei opened the scoring with a thunderous free-kick from long range that left the Ghanaian goalkeeper stranded.

Just six minutes later, Alaba Olabiyi doubled Nigeria’s lead, poking home from close range after a well-placed header inside the box.
Kareem Seals the Win
After the interval, Nigeria extended their dominance as Ramotalahi Kareem connected with a teasing cross from Akekoromowei to make it 3-0 around the hour mark.
The goal was Kareem’s third of the tournament, putting her level with Akekoromowei at the top of the scoring chart.
With nine points from three matches, the Falconets clinched the title with a game to spare, rendering their final fixture against hosts Benin Republic a formality.
Ghana fall short as Nigeria take revenge
Ghana, who needed a win to stay in contention after defeating Benin 2-0 on Monday, were unable to cope with Nigeria’s relentless tempo.
The defeat left the defending champions with six points from four games, ending their hopes of retaining the title they won two years ago.
For Nigeria, the victory was particularly satisfying, a measure of revenge after losing to Ghana on penalties in the final of the inaugural edition.
Focus shifts to World Cup qualifiers
Head coach Moses Aduku praised his team’s efforts as he now turns attention to the 2026 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup qualifiers against Senegal slated for February next year.
For now, the Falconets can celebrate a historic title, establishing themselves as the best U20 women’s team in West Africa.
