Fake Doctor Nabbed In Akwa Ibom After Illegal Abortion Claims Woman’s Life

The Akwa Ibom Police Command has taken Sunday Okon Akpan, a fake medical practitioner at Full Life Medical Centre in Ikot Obio Odong village, Ibesikpo Asutan, into custody over an alleged illegal abortion that led to a woman’s death.

In a statement on Thursday, DSP Timfon John, the command’s Public Relations Officer, said the arrest followed a report from a woman (name withheld) that her daughter, Blessing Sunday Etim, went to Full Life Medical Centre for work but did not return.

John stated that a co-tenant of the deceased recounted how the victim’s employer, the fake doctor, tried to secretly enter her room to dispose of her body. When confronted, he abandoned the corpse and fled the scene.

She explained that upon their arrival, detectives discovered a premature fetus emerging from the victim. The investigation subsequently led to the arrest of Sunday Okon Akpan, a resident of Afaha Offiong village in Nsit Ibom.

She said, “Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim died from a suspected illegal abortion performed by the accused. Further inquiries exposed that the suspect, who owns and operates the Full Life Medical Centre, is not a licensed medical doctor or a nurse, but rather a community health practitioner. It is believed that he used the facility to perform illegal medical services and abortions. The health center had since been deserted.”

The PPRO stated that the deceased’s body has been taken to a morgue for preservation and an autopsy, adding that the investigation is still ongoing.
