The Emir of Ilorin and Chairman of Kwara State Traditional Rulers Council, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, has urged Islamic scholars in the Ilorin Emirate and beyond to expose ritualists masquerading as clerics.

Sulu-Gambari further urged them “to sanitise the system by ensuring that such characters are exposed to the law enforcement agencies before wrecking more havoc and damaging the lives of innocent persons.”

The emir was reacting to the gruesome killing of Hafsah Lawal, a final-year student of the Kwara State College of Education, Ilọrin allegedly by one Abdulrahman Bello, an acclaimed ‘alfa’.

The traditional ruler, in a statement issued by his spokesman, Mallam Abdulazeez Arowona, on Sunday, directed “religious leaders, especially imams in mosques in Ilorin Emirate and Kwara State at large, to ensure that their Friday Khutbah focuses more attention on morality, dignity in labour as well as importance and respect for the souls of fellow human-beings irrespective of tribe, religion and status.”

Meanwhile, the Muslim Media Watch Group of Nigeria in a statement on Sunday by its national coordinator, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi, called on the Kwara State Police Command and the Kwara State Judiciary to diligently and promptly prosecute the suspect.

It appealed to the police and other security agencies in Kwara State to dig further into the matter to know the accomplices in the heinous crime, arrest and prosecute them.
