ABAKALIKI – A former acting Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ebonyi State, Barr. Ifeanyi Nworie, has defected to the All Progressives Congress with his supporters.
Nworie was formally received into the ruling party during a civic reception organized in his honour by the people of Ezza South Local Government Area, held at Ezza Council headquarters, on Wednesday.
Welcoming the former PDP chieftain, Ebonyi APC Chairman, Stanley Emegha, said he was happy how the people of the Council have United in support of Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru.
He urged them to sustain their support for Governor Francis Nwifuru in his drive to develop the state.
He also disclosed that he had reached out to the 2023 PDP governorship candidate, Ifeanyichukwuma Odii, to join forces with the governor for the progress of Ebonyi.
Emegha directed party stakeholders in Ezza South to fully integrate the new entrants into the party structure, stressing that the APC remains a disciplined party that would not tolerate any attempt to cause internal crises or factionalization in the party.
“The APC is a party of order and discipline. We must work together and avoid anything that could create divisions within the party,” he cautioned.
The Chairperson of Ezza South Local Government Area, Mrs. Euphemia Nwali, attributed the increasing defections to Governor Nwifuru’s developmental strides, noting that his administration’s achievements had continued to attract members of opposition parties to the APC.
Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Barr. Nworie dismissed speculations that he left the PDP due to internal crises, insisting that his decision was based on his commitment to the state’s progress and because of the leadership style of governor Nwifuru.
“I am here to contribute to the growth of Ebonyi under the APC. I will not be part of any factionalization, and my goal is to see the APC sweep all elective positions in the 2027 general elections,” he said.
Senator representing Ebonyi Central Senatorial zone, Senator Kenneth Eze, who was represented by the Special Assistant to the Governor on Local Government and Chieftaincy Matter, Hon Chukwuma Ujebe, described the detection of Barrister Nworie and his supporters as a welcome development.
Other stakeholders who spoke including former House of Reps member, Chief Innocent Ugochima; former House of Reps member, Hon Lazarus Ogbee; State Deputy Chairman of APC, Deputy Hon. Alphonsus Nwali; Zonal Chairman of APC and Ebonyi Central, Hon Peter Nworie, thanked the defectors for joining the winning party. END//
