Euro 2024: Germany Secure 2-0 Victory Over Denmark in Second Round Match Delayed By Thunderstorm 

Germany have triumphed over Denmark with a decisive 2-0 win in their Euro 2024 clash at Signal Iduna Park in Dortmund. The match saw goals from Kai Havertz and Jamal Musiala, propelling Germany to a solid victory.

The first goal came in the 53rd minute when Havertz successfully converted a penalty, giving Germany the lead resulting from a hand ball by Joachim Anderson, who thought he had scored at the other end, only for the Danes to be heartbroken by the offside flag.

Jamal Musiala doubled the lead in the 68th minute after latching on to a long ball by German defender Schlotterbeck and finishing past the indecisive Kasper Schmeichel who was caught between coming out to claim the ball and staying within his 6 yard area.

Germany dominated the game with 15 shots, 9 of which were on target, compared to Denmark’s 11 shots with only 2 on target. Possession was also in Germany’s favor at 55%, with a total of 534 passes and an 88% pass accuracy rate. Denmark, while competitive, managed 443 passes with an 83% accuracy rate.

The match was relatively clean, with Germany committing 7 fouls and Denmark 15. Denmark received 2 yellow cards, while Germany avoided any bookings. Both teams had equal opportunities from corners, with 6 each.

There was about a 15 minute hiatus in the middle of the first half due to adverse weather conditions, with a lightning storm hitting the area around the Signal Iduna Park. Two huge claps of thunder rang out around the stadium, before referee Michael Oliver blew his whistle and directed the two sets of players to leave the pitch. Rain then started pouring down as well as hail stones as lightning could be seen striking the area around the ground.

The stadium’s roof also began to leak, with huge waterfalls soaking the supporters who attended the game. Initially, the players stood around the dugouts, before Oliver instructed them to return to the dressing rooms after a few minutes of waiting. The match began shortly after as the rain began to ease.

It was a well deserved win by the hosts who took advantage of the home support from their ever energetic fans and countrymen and will face the eventual winners of the round of 16 clash between Spain and Georgia in the quarter finals.
