Equinix, a global leader in digital infrastructure, has announced plans to open its latest data centre, LG3, in Lagos, Nigeria, in the first quarter of 2026. The $22 million facility will be the first purpose-built Equinix site in West Africa.
This investment aims to provide high-quality infrastructure and connectivity services to support local businesses and attract international companies. It is part of a larger $100 million initiative to expand the company’s presence on the continent over the next two years.
LG3 will connect with Equinix Fabric, which will help businesses link their physical and digital resources to cloud services and partners worldwide. This will allow companies in Nigeria to grow easily, tap into global networks, and securely connect to cloud and enterprise services without depending only on traditional IT systems.

Wole Abu, the Managing Director for Equinix in West Africa, stated that the Lagos data centre represents a significant step in closing Africa’s digital divide. “We’re not just building data centres; we’re fostering growth, empowering innovation, and laying the foundation for an interconnected African economy that is prepared to lead on the global stage,” Abu remarked.
Equinix and the next wave of Nigeria’s digital transformation
The LG3 facility is important for Nigeria’s growing tech scene. As Africa’s second-largest economy, Nigeria has a tech-savvy population, with Lagos at the centre of this digital growth. LG3 aims to provide top-notch data centre services, helping local startups, banks, and service providers meet global standards, which will strengthen industries like fintech, e-commerce, and AI.

Cedarview Managing Director Olawale Owoeye emphasised that the data centre offers businesses robust connectivity, reliable performance, and access to the company’s global ecosystem, enabling Cedarview to expand its digital footprint and deliver high-performance solutions.

Equinix’s investment demonstrates confidence in Africa’s digital economy while underscoring future challenges. Sustainable operations, cybersecurity, and managing cloud and AI infrastructure demand will test Equinix and its local partners.
