Gabriel Martinelli scored in added time to ensure Arsenal
and Manchester City shared the points in their 1-1 draw at the Emirates stadium
on Sunday.
The North Londoners took solace in the point earned in an
entertaining English Premier League (EPL) encounter the Gunners dominated Man
City but lacked killer instinct displayed by Erling Haaland to give the
visitors the lead.
Arsenal put a foothold on possession from the opening
minutes but it was Man City who took advantage of a sleepy defence that allowed
Haaland’s deep run into the box where he collected Tijjani Reijnders’ pass
before slotting beyond David Raya for 1-0 on nine minutes.
Noni Madueke and William Saliba both had headers go wide,
while the latter saw a shot comfortably saved by Gianluigi Donnarumma before
the break.
City went ultra-defensive with over ten minutes left, with
Pep Guardiola replacing Haaland with a defensive midfielder. The former EPL
champions were however breached deep into injury time when Eberechi Eze’s ball
over the top was pounced on by Martinelli who lifted a lobbed effort over
Donnarumma to ensure a share of the points.
Mikel Arteta’s side is in second place, five points behind
leaders Liverpool, while Man City are in ninth place on seven points.
