Tottenham Hotspur claimed back-to-back Premier League wins under new manager Thomas Frank with a stunning 2-0 victory over Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.
Spurs, who dismantled City 4-0 at the same ground last November, repeated the feat with another disciplined and clinical display, leaving Pep Guardiola’s side frustrated once more.
City started the brighter side as Omar Marmoush tested Guglielmo Vicario twice in quick succession, first dragging a shot narrowly wide before forcing the Spurs goalkeeper into a fine save from distance. The Egyptian forward remained a constant threat, drawing another stop after being released by Erling Haaland.
But it was Tottenham who struck first, punishing City with a swift counterattack. Richarlison’s low cross was finished smartly by Brennan Johnson, with the goal awarded after a VAR review overturned an initial offside decision.
Seven minutes of added time in the first half—following an injury to City’s Rayan Aït-Nouri—proved costly for the hosts. Goalkeeper James Trafford gifted possession inside his own area, allowing Joao Palhinha to rifle home Spurs’ second.
Trafford endured a nervy spell and was fortunate to avoid a red card moments earlier after a collision with Mohammed Kudus outside the box.
City’s best chance came before the interval when Haaland headed over from close range, and despite dominating possession in the second half, they could not break down a resolute Spurs defence.
The result handed Tottenham consecutive clean sheets to start the season and maintained Frank’s perfect record since taking charge.
