Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has urged teenage star Estevao Willian to adapt quickly despite his standout performance in Friday’s 5-1 demolition of West Ham.
The 18-year-old, a late replacement for the injured Cole Palmer, lit up Stamford Bridge with a man-of-the-match display, registering an assist for Enzo Fernandez and impressing in dribbles, tackles, and forward passes.
His contribution also made him the youngest Chelsea player ever to provide a Premier League assist.
But Maresca reminded the Brazilian that mistakes at the top level are costly, pointing to his role in the buildup to Lucas Paqueta’s opener for West Ham.
“He is very young and a fantastic player. I am very happy with him,” Maresca told reporters.
“But he also has to adapt because the goal we conceded came from him trying to make a flick in the middle of the pitch.”
Estevao, who joined from Palmeiras this summer, has quickly proved why he is considered one of Brazil’s brightest talents.
