Enugu Police Arrest Two Suspects, Recover Locally Made Firearms, Incriminating Exhibits

The Enugu State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of two male suspects and the recovery of four locally made firearms, including an imitation pistol, a live cartridge, and other incriminating items, during separate operations across the state.

Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, who disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, noted that the arrests were achieved through intelligence-led operations as part of the command’s continuous efforts to combat crime and ensure public safety in the state.

According to Ndukwe, one of the operations took place on September 6, 2025, at about 4:00 p.m., when operatives of the Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad, working alongside members of the Neighbourhood Watch Group, stormed a suspected criminal hideout at Ameke Ngwo in Udi Local Government Area. He explained that the suspects took to their heels on sighting the operatives but abandoned a bag containing two locally made firearms, identified as a triple-barrel pistol and a single-barrel pistol.

In a similar development, Ndukwe revealed that operatives of the Abakpa Police Division, while on night patrol on September 5, 2025, at around 11:05 p.m., arrested one Peter Kalu, a 26-year-old resident of Enugu. He was apprehended for causing public disturbance, and a search conducted on him led to the recovery of a locally fabricated imitation pistol.

Furthermore, on September 3, 2025, at about 11:00 p.m., personnel of the Umabor Police Division, in collaboration with local vigilantes, rescued and arrested one Ugwu Collins, aged 23, from an angry mob. The suspect was allegedly found in unlawful possession of a firearm and had reportedly threatened a male victim. A locally made double-barrel pistol, loaded with a live cartridge, was recovered from him.

The police spokesman further stated that Collins confessed during interrogation to being a member of the Black Axe confraternity, adding that discreet investigations into the incidents are still ongoing. He assured that the suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, commended the operatives for their swift response and professionalism during the operations. He reiterated the command’s commitment to sustaining the fight against criminality across the state.

Giwa also called on residents of Enugu State to remain law-abiding, vigilant, and supportive of security agencies by providing timely and credible information that will aid ongoing efforts to ensure safety and security in the state.
