Enugu State Government has strongly condemned the brutal murder of Rev. Fr. Mathew Eya of the Nsukka Catholic Diocese, who was killed by unidentified gunmen in Eha-Ndiagu community, Ehalumona, Nsukka Local Government Area.
In a statement issued on Saturday in Enugu by the State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Dr. Malachy Agbo, the government described the killing as “cowardly and cold-blooded.”
According to the statement, Rev. Fr. Eya was attacked and fatally shot along the Alumona–Eha Ndiagu Road by a group of armed assailants on Friday. The state government reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the lives and property of residents, stressing that the perpetrators would not escape justice.

“The Enugu State Government will not spare any resources within its reach, including technology and credible intelligence, to track down the criminals and defeat the remnant agents of evil in the state,” the statement added.
To aid the investigation, the government announced a ₦10 million bounty for anyone who provides credible information that could lead to the arrest of those responsible.
“Consequently, the Enugu State Government has placed a ₦10 million reward for anyone with credible information that could lead to the arrest of the perpetrators of the heinous crime. Anybody with credible information about the perpetrators should quickly contact 07077451426,” the statement read.
The state government also extended its condolences to the immediate family of the late priest, the Catholic Diocese of Nsukka, and the entire Catholic faithful over the tragic incident.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Rev. Fr. Eya hailed from Ugbaike in Enugu Ezike, Igboeze North Local Government Area of Enugu State.
