Chairman Council of Ulama, Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’ah Wa’Ikamatis Sunnah (JIBWIS), Sheikh Sani Yahaya Jingir, weekend called on Nigerian youth to embrace vocational skills, trade and services, rather than depending on certificate for job opportunities.
Shikeh Jingir made the call Sunday at the formal closing of the group’s 32nd national annual seminar, held at the multi-purpose hall of the University of Jos, preparatory to Ramadan fasting.
“The youth should endeavour to acquire skills, trade and other legitimate business, because the issue of relying alone on certificate has gone, certificates are expiring,” he said.
Sheikh Jingir said preachers should always preach with fear of Allah, and should not be doing things that are antithetical to peace.
Meanwhile, JIBWIS, in an 11 point communique issued by Hafiz Aminu Yusuf Nuhu, national co-coordinator of the seminar, stated the importance of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in fighting poverty and generating employment.
It observed that MSMEs face numerous challenges, including insufficient finance and non-functional infrastructure and called on the federal and state governments to provide support for small-scale enterprises and invest in critical infrastructure such as electricity and road networks.
The communiqué further expressed concern over the negative impact of social media on society and called for regulation to address the disadvantages.
It also called for intensified efforts to combat insecurity, support for agriculture to ensure food security and unity among Muslims to face common challenges.
