…..Seven suspected thugs arrested during initiation rites
In a major breakthrough in the ongoing security operations ahead of the November 8, 2025 Anambra Governorship Election, the Joint Security Team comprising operatives of the Special Anti-Cult Squad (SPACS) Enugu-Ukwu and Agunechemba Vigilante operatives have arrested seven suspected members of the notorious Black Axe confraternity allegedly being groomed for election thuggery.
The suspects were rounded up in the early hours of Sunday, October 26, 2025, during an initiation ceremony in a bush at Obinagu, Abagana, Njikoka Local Government Area.
Items recovered from the scene include a 25-litre keg containing a red liquid substance, red ritual cloths, two wooden drums, and footwear belonging to the suspects and their fleeing accomplices.
The arrested suspects, all males, are identified as:

Preliminary investigation indicates that the initiation was part of the group’s preparation and recruitment drive to deploy members as political thugs in Njikoka and Anaocha Local Government Areas during the forthcoming election. The suspects reportedly attempted to flee upon sighting the operatives but were swiftly apprehended after a brief chase.
The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, fwc, mnips, PhD, has reaffirmed the Command’s unwavering commitment to maintaining peace and order before, during, and after the election. He warned that the Police will not tolerate any activities that could disrupt the electoral process or endanger public safety.
The CP also urged parents, community leaders, and youth organizations to intensify efforts in moral reorientation and discourage young people from engaging in cultism or political violence.
Meanwhile, investigations are ongoing to track down fleeing members of the group and dismantle other associated cult cells operating within the region
