Former Kaduna State Governor Malam Nasir El-Rufai wrapped up a two-day visit to Owerri, commending the city’s warm hospitality and reaffirming his commitment to fostering national unity.
In a statement released by his media adviser, Muyiwa Adekeye, El-Rufai described the visit as “great,” emphasizing the “consistent pattern of welcome and openness” he experienced.
El-Rufai expressed gratitude for the grace and dignity shown by Owerri’s residents and institutions, calling it a powerful example of unity in the face of divisive narratives.
“I am overwhelmed by the warmth displayed by everyone, showing how a Nigerian can feel at home outside their region,” he said.
During his visit, El-Rufai spoke at the 2025 Odenigbo Lecture hosted by the Catholic Archdiocese of Owerri and addressed participants at the women’s conference of the Anglican Diocese of Egbu.
He also enjoyed the hospitality of His Highness Eze Stephen Kemjika Agumanu of Nekede and held an interactive session on his first night, which was attended by His Excellency Peter Obi despite Obi’s ill health.
“Owerri’s kindness has left us with cherished memories,” El-Rufai concluded, expressing appreciation for the city’s open-hearted reception.
