Ekong urges Nigerians to rally behind Super Eagles ahead of Rwanda clash

Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong has called on Nigerians to throw their full support behind the national team as they gear up for a crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Rwanda on Saturday in Uyo.

Nigeria currently face mounting pressure in Group C, with earlier slip-ups leaving them outside the automatic qualification spots.

Troost-Ekong, stressing the importance of unity between players and fans, urged Nigerians to fill the stands and back the team through what could be a decisive period in their qualification journey.

“The boys are very focused, and we’re looking forward to the game on Saturday. I want to thank the fans for their support, and I ask them to continue encouraging us; be there in the stadium, keep praying for us, and rally with everyone else in Nigeria.”

He added that full concentration in training and the energy from home support will be key to securing victory.

Nigeria will look to draw inspiration from their 2–0 win over Rwanda in Kigali back in March, when Victor Osimhen’s brace earned all three points.

A win in Uyo would boost their standing in the group and restore confidence as the three-time African champions push for a spot at the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
