Eight Passengers Freed From Kidnappers By Police In Kogi – Independent Newspaper Nigeria

The  Kogi State Police Command have rescued eight passengers from their abductors on Friday, 25 September 2025.

The passengers  were kidnapped by their captors along the Okene-Auchi Road in the Okene Local Government area of the state.

According to security and counterintelligence expert, Zagazola Makama on  his X account @zagazOlaMakama, (formerly Twitter), he stated that the kidnappers were dressed in military fatigue.

He said that they intercepted the  Toyota Hiace bus beloginging to Big Joe Limited that was conveying the passengers to their destination.

The bus, with registration number FUG 13 XY, was conveying 12 passengers from Abuja to Benin, Edo State, when the attackers struck and whisked the passengers into the bush.

Operatives  of the Nigeria police  and vigilante groups, mobilised to the scene and engaged the hoodlums in a firefight.

According to him, “four expended 7.62x39mm ammunition were recovered, while eight victims, including the driver, were rescued unhurt.

Efforts are ongoing to rescue the remaining four passengers still in captivity, with security operatives combing the surrounding forest according to Makama.
