Egypt defeated Nigeria 2–1 in an international friendly played at the Cairo International Stadium as both teams prepared for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Both sides were without key attackers, with Mohamed Salah and Victor Osimhen not featuring after late arrival from club duties.
Egypt took the lead in the 28th minute through Mahmoud Saber, who scored from close range following a cross by Ahmed Zizo.
Nigeria equalised in first-half stoppage time when Chidozie Awaziem headed in after a free-kick from Zaidu Sanusi came off the post and goalkeeper Mohamed El-Shenawy.
Egypt regained the lead in the 53rd minute when Mostafa Mohamed scored with a low shot after Nigeria’s defence failed to hold the offside line.
Despite late pressure, Nigeria were unable to find another equaliser, and Egypt held on for the win.
Nigeria will begin their AFCON campaign against Tanzania on December 23, while Egypt face Zimbabwe on December 22 in their opening group match.
