Egwuonwu, Anambra entrepreneur, joins race for senatorial bye-election

1 week ago 25

Akai Egwuonwu, an Anambra entrepreneur, has declared interest to contest the Anambra South Senatorial District bye-election on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

The philanthropist, industrialist, community employer and a front line aspirant of the party told BusinessDay on Sunday that he is perfectly qualified to replace late Ubah for the task at the Red Chambers.

The call for representation comes in the wake of the passing of late Ifeanyi Ubah on July 27, 2024, leaving the Anambra South Senatorial Zone unrepresented in the National Assembly for months.

First on his list of manifest if elected is security; he acknowledged the unique security challenges facing Anambra South and pledged to tackle them decisively, drawing on the legacy of the late Sen. Ifeanyi Ubah.

“I will fulfil Ubah’s dream of securing our zone by addressing insecurity at its roots and utilising the latest security technology he introduced before his passing on,” he stated.

Egwuonwu said he would also foster the growth of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) through grants and funding options, inspired by successful support schemes in the UK.

He articulated the importance of aiding local business owners as a fundamental aspect of his Senatorial agenda.

He vowed to utilise all legislative tools available – motions, bills, and oversight functions – to advocate the interests of his constituents, effectively.

“I am asking for your support because I am in touch with needs of the people and poised to change the narrative,” he said.

He appealed to the people in Anambra South Zone to support his aspiration, adding that he is determined to ensure their voices are heard in the quest for equitable political representation.
