In a fast-paced world filled with dopamine triggers and distractions, the art of reading a book is fast becoming a lost one.

“However, true believers, the faithful, still find time to read a book, adding to their knowledge bank and distancing themselves from other occupants of the Matrix,” said Thankgod Egesimba, author of Memoirs of an Otondo.

Egesimba has a school outreach program where he tours various institutions of education, such as secondary schools and Universities, where he teaches and discusses with young adults on how to be of great value to themselves and their society while avoiding mistakes some of them might have made at their age.

Ahead of the book launch on Saturday, November 22, Egesimba told BusinessDay that the major aim of the book launch is to kick-start a nationwide book drive that will get a million copies of the book into the hands of students and even corps members in a bid to improve on an observable declining reading culture in Nigeria.

He noted that the book promises a good read, paying tribute to the travails of the comical Nigerian Otondo, a colloquial term used to describe a fresh Youth Service Corps member.

As a testament to the compelling and remarkable nature of the story in the novel, the foreword was written by Emeka Oguchi, founder, MD/CEO of Pointek Limited.

”Memoirs of an Otondo” is a compelling story of a young man who suddenly found himself ousted from his comfort zone in the service of his nation through Nigeria’s National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

“The writing style starts off as hilarious, but readers will discover that it has a lot more depth to it by the time that they get to the end. It is filled with twists and turns and has been known to leave readers deeply.

ThankGod Egesimba told (your organisation), explaining the book in simple terms.
“If you’ve ever served, dreamed of serving, or simply love a story that entertains while tugging at your heart, ‘Memoirs of an Otondo’ is the book you’ve been waiting for,” Oguchi added.

Egesimba noted that the book launch which debuts at the Seminar Hall of Archbishop Vining Memorial Church, Ikeja GRA, Lagos has some corporate partners like City 105.1 FM and Hi-impact radio (102.1FM), while also looking forward to “partnering with like-minded individuals, brands, organisations, authors, the literary community, and anybody interested in being a part of such a positively-impacting journey”.
