Nigeria can only achieve its quest for national security through an effectively managed transport system, Professor Shedrack Gaya Best has said.

Delivering a keynote address at the National Conference of Directors and Chief Road Traffic Officers (VIOs) of the Federation, themed: “Enhancing National Security and Road Traffic Safety Through Effective Motor Vehicle Administration in Nigeria,” held at Steffan Hotel, Rayfield, Jos, Prof. Best stressed the critical link between transportation, governance and security.

He said national security is multidimensional and depends on several factors, including a safe and dependable vehicular management system.

 “A secure nation is free from vulnerability to harm, sabotage, and aggression. It is also a nation that effectively manages its traffic and vehicular systems integrating essential data on vehicles, owners, and drivers,” Best stated.

In her address, Plateau State Chief Vehicle Inspection Officer, Mrs. Anna Moltok, highlighted strides made by her department, including improved staff morale, uniforms, and equipment. She commended the state government for supporting gender inclusion and approving funds to host the conference, while appealing for more personnel, especially women to tackle understaffing.
