Efe Ajagba displaces Anthony Joshua in heavyweight rankings



Two-time heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua has fallen out of Ring Magazine’s updated heavyweight rankings, with fellow Nigerian Efe Ajagba taking his place in the top ten, according to talkSPORT.

Joshua has been inactive since suffering a brutal knockout defeat to Daniel Dubois in 2024.

The Watford-born boxer later underwent elbow surgery, forcing him to delay his return until early 2026.

His extended absence has already seen him removed from the IBF heavyweight rankings, and now Ring Magazine has removed him from its list, where he previously held the No.5 spot.

Replacing him is Ajagba, who claimed the vacant No.10 position. The 31-year-old Olympian, who turned professional in 2017 and has lost only once to Cuban contender Frank Sanchez.

Ajagba’s most recent outing came in May, when he fought Martin Bakole to a controversial draw.
Despite slipping off two major ranking lists in the space of a month, Joshua remains determined to stage a comeback.

His promoter, Eddie Hearn, confirmed plans for a carefully selected return fight in January or February 2026, with a potential clash against French heavyweight Tony Yoka among the options. Talks have also been held over a possible debut fight in Ghana.
