EFCC releases ex-AGF Malami after interrogation

Former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), says his engagement with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) following an invitation for questioning ended positively.

In a post on his X handle early Saturday, Malami confirmed that he had been released after the session and scheduled for a follow-up meeting with investigators. He said the truth about what he described as “fabricated allegations” against him would become evident with time.

“The engagement was successful and I am eventually released, while on an appointment for further engagement, as the truth relating to the fabricated allegations against me continues to unfold,” he wrote.

Malami was invited by the EFCC to respond to questions concerning alleged misconduct during his tenure as justice minister.

Ahead of his appearance, he had publicly stated that he would honour the invitation, describing it as part of his commitment to transparency and accountability.

“I am informing my family and friends that EFCC has invited me to clarify some issues, and as a citizen of law and order and a patriot, I am willing to honour this invitation without any hesitation,” he said, adding that honesty and integrity were values he upheld throughout his years in public office.
