Edo: Okpebholo bars commissioners not wearing Asiwaju cap from exco meetings

‎Edo state governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has ordered appointed commissioners to at all times wear the Asiwaju cap popularised by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

‎The governor warned that any commissioner who wears traditional attire without donning Asiwaju cap would be barred from the State Executive Council meetings.

The “Asiwaju Cap” is also associated with President Tinubu. He’s often referred to as “Asiwaju” due to his leadership role in Nigeria politics.

‎Governor Okpebholo who spoke Tuesday during the swearing-in  of 19 commissioners,  heads of commission and board members in the state, said:  “What is happening today  couldn’t have happened if we don’t have a responsible leader.

‎”We have done many elections and our major problem was that the president was not with us at the time.

‎”Let me tell you, before we begin, you see this cap (pointing to ‘Asiwaju cap’), I will not swear in any commissioner that is not wearing the cap.

‎”In EXCO, if you are not wearing suit, but you are wearing native attire, and coming to the EXCO without this Asiwanju cap, you are going back,” he said.

‎Continuing, Okpebholo stated that all appointments were made strictly on merit adding, “Your roles are not rewards for patronage, but call to serve the people of Edo state.”

‎He warned that his administration will not tolerate acts of corruption and actions that could undermine its integrity.
