ABUJA – The President of the ECOWAS Commission, Dr Omar Alieu Touray has highlighted experience onDr Omar Alieu eace negotiations in Addis Ababa.
“Peace processes in Africa: prospects for lasting agreements to end conflicts” was the theme of a meeting organised by the Royal Institute of International Affairs, a London-based think-tank better known as Chatham House, and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) on Friday in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on the sidelines of the 38th Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union.
A statement said that during this event, which was attended by the President of the ECOWAS Commission and the Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security, Abdel Fatau MUSAH, African personalities such as Dr Mohamed Ibn Chambas and Professor Ibrahim Gambari presented their experiences of peace negotiations on the African continent and the role played by local, regional and international players.
In his presentation at the meeting, the ECOWAS President recalled ECOWAS’ long and extensive experience of peace agreements in West Africa, notably in Liberia, Sierra Leone, Guinea-Bissau and The Gambia.
