ECOWAS, AU Commissioners Strengthen Collaboration On Peace, Security, Governance

ABUJA – The Economic Community of West Africa States (ECOWAS), and African Union Commissioners have reiterated commitment to strengthen collaboration on peace, security, and governance to advance the region.

This was unveiled at the sidelines of the African Union Assembly, where Ambassador Dr. Abdel-Fatau Musah, ECOWAS Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace, and Security, met with his counterpart, Ambassador Bankole Adeoye, to congratulate him on his re-election as the African Union Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace, and Security.

A statement on Tuesday said that their discussion reaffirmed the strong cooperation between ECOWAS and the African Union in advancing regional stability and security.

The two commissioners explored key areas of collaboration, emphasizing the need for joint initiatives on peace, security, and governance.

They agreed to undertake joint technical missions to selected member states, enhance engagement between the AU Peace and Security Council and the ECOWAS Mediation and Security Council, and initiate direct consultations between their respective teams.

According to the statement, these efforts aim to strengthen institutional coordination and reinforce ongoing peace and security interventions in the region, in line with ECOWAS’s commitment to fostering stability and good governance.
