Ebonyi governor’s wife builds houses for widows

The wife of Ebonyi state governor, Mrs. Uzoamaka Nwifuru, has rehabilitated 26 widows in the 13 Local Government Area (LGA).

Mrs Nwifuru through her pet project – Better Health for Rural Women, Children, and Internally Displaced Persons Foundation (BERWO) constructed 26 bungalows, two each across the council areas of the state.

The first lady singled out indigent widows in the society for this building projects.

Commissioning these projects in Ufueze Umuocha Umudomi Igboeze, Onicha and Ndegu Umuigboke Oriuzor, Ezza North LGAs, respectively, Mrs. Nwifuru said the project went beyond providing physical structures.

“These homes are symbols of hope, dignity, and the assurance that no widow in Ebonyi state will be left behind. Through this project, we reaffirm our shared humanity and the belief that compassion is the true foundation of leadership”, she said.

Chairman of Onicha LGA, Prince Okechukwu Ogbofia expressed happiness on poverty alleviation among the widows who he said, had hitherto lived in thatched houses.

“You can see how happy Onicha women are and this is the first time we are experiencing this type of thing. We are very grateful and I want to promise Her Excellency that 2027 is a walkover, nobody will contest governorship election in onicha,” he said.

Also, the Coordinator Onicha West development center, Mr. Princewill said, “I’m celebrating with this widows who have received the gift of new houses from the wife of Ebonyi state Governor. I’m happy to inform you that the two building projects, 3 bedroom bungalow for the widows are in my Dc, I am a winner”.

The benefiting widows, Mrs. Mary Negene and Mrs Roseline Nwafor expressed their joy as they said that “the governor’s wife has revived our lives.”
