Emmanuel Amuneke is a Nigerian footballer who has played for the Nigerian National Team and Barcelona. He played for several notable European clubs, including Zamalek, Sporting CP, Barcelona, and Albacete. He played in all of these clubs’ first teams, with the exception of Barcelona, where he was frequently used as a substitute.
He scored 26 goals in 71 games for Zamalek over three years. He played for Sporting CP for two years, scoring only 17 goals in 51 matches.
After a mediocre last season with Sporting, he moved to Barcelona, where he made only 19 appearances and scored one goal over four years. He then sought a move to Albacete in 2000. He played two years with Albacete, making 17 appearances and scoring one goal.
Amunike made 27 appearances for Nigeria and scored nine goals. He played in the 1994 FIFA World Cup hosted in the United States, scoring against Bulgaria and Italy. He was one of the players who won the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations in Tunisia and was later named African Footballer. He also won gold at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta.

Emmanuel Amunike was born on December 25, 1970, in Eziobodo, Owerri West local government area, Imo State, Nigeria, to Michael Amuneke. He is a retired professional footballer who previously played as a left winger for FC Barcelona and the Nigeria national team, as well as a current coach.
Career
Amunike has played for Zamalek, Sporting CP, Barcelona, and Albacete. He made 28 appearances for Nigeria, scoring 10 goals. He was a member of the team that competed in the 1994 FIFA World Cup in the United States, scoring against Bulgaria and Italy. He also helped the Super Eagles win the 1994 African Cup of Nations in Tunisia and was named African Footballer of the Year.
Amunike played all of Nigeria’s games at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, scoring the winning goal in the final as the national team won the gold medal. Knee concerns ruled him out of the 1998 FIFA World Cup.
Managerial career
After retiring at the end of 2004, Amunike relocated to Cantabria in 2006, where he lived with his Spanish wife, Fatima, and attended coaching classes. In addition, he coached young teams at SD Reocín. After working as an assistant coach at Saudi club Al Hazm, Amunike took over as manager of Julius Berger, a local Nigerian team, in August 2008.
After finishing two years of training courses in Europe, Amunike began instructing select Nigerian teams on December 23, 2008. In November 2009, he took over Ocean Boys.
Amunike coached Nigeria’s U17 national side to victory at the 2015 World Cup. On August 6, 2018, he was named head coach of the Tanzania national team. He qualified for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, but resigned from coaching the squad after losing all three games. In November 2019, he stated that he was looking for new employment.
Amunike was appointed manager of Misr Lei Makkasa, an Egyptian Premier League club, in February 2021. In March 2021, his position was changed to director of academies. In February 2022, he was appointed as the Nigeria national team’s assistant coach.
Personal Life.
Amunike’s younger brothers, Kingsley and Kevin, have also played football. Both played for numerous years in Portugal, among other countries. Emmanuel Amunike met his Spanish wife, Fatima, in Santander, Spain, during the Super Eagles’ preparation for the 1994 World Cup match against Racing de Santander. He met Fatima through his teammate Mutiu Adepoju, whose wife was familiar with her.
