DSS Warns Public Against Dismissed Officer Impersonating Its Official

The Department of State Services (DSS) has issued a public alert regarding Victor Onyedikachi Godwin, a former officer who was dismissed, over allegations that he has been using the agency’s name to scam unsuspecting Nigerians.

In a statement released on Sunday, the DSS explained that Godwin has been pretending to be one of its officials and carrying out fraudulent schemes while claiming to represent the Service.

“The Department of State Services (DSS) hereby alerts members of the public of the activities of one Victor Onyedikachi Godwin, a dismissed staff,” the statement read.

“He is reportedly engaging in unscrupulous activities, including using the name of the Service to defraud unsuspecting members of the public. Members of the public are therefore advised to desist from any dealings with him.”

The agency also called on citizens to be vigilant and confirm the identity of anyone claiming to be a DSS representative before committing financially or otherwise.

It further instructed that any legitimate requests, complaints, or inquiries should be routed through the Service’s official communication channels — telephone number 09088373515 or email [email protected].

The DSS reaffirmed its dedication to safeguarding the integrity of its operations, warning that anyone found impersonating the agency would face stringent legal consequences.

The secret police added that this warning comes after a similar notice last week about Barry Donald, another dismissed officer accused of defrauding the public while falsely presenting himself as a DSS operative.
