Dr. Reuben Abati To Launch Three New Books As He Marks 60th Birthday


Ace journalist, public intellectual, and former Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to President Goodluck Jonathan, Dr. Reuben Abati, is set to unveil three new books that explore politics, society, and personal reflections.

The event, organised by Caltop Publications Nigeria Limited, will hold on Friday, November 7, 2025, at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA), Victoria Island, Lagos, beginning at 10:00 a.m. prompt.

The books, “Portraits: People, Politics and Society,” “A Love Letter & Other Stories,” and “How Goodluck Jonathan Became President”, showcase Dr. Abati’s remarkable versatility as a writer, blending political insight, social commentary, and creative storytelling. Together, they represent a rich contribution to Nigeria’s literary and political discourse.

In a statement, Mr. Ayo Arowosegbe, Managing Director of Caltop Publications, described the works as “compelling, insightful, and relevant for our times.

He added that the books “will serve as vital references for policymakers, media professionals, academics, students, and anyone seeking informed perspectives on Nigeria and the world at large.”

The launch is expected to attract dignitaries from government, academia, the media, and the literary community.

It will also coincide with Dr. Abati’s 60th birthday, making the day not just a literary celebration but also a tribute to one of Nigeria’s most respected voices in journalism and national development.

Dr. Abati’s career spans decades of influence in academia, journalism, broadcasting, and public service. He served as Chairman of the Editorial Board of The Guardian newspapers before joining government as a presidential spokesperson.

A former lecturer at Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, where he taught drama and literature, Abati has remained a leading commentator on politics, governance, the economy, and the arts. Between 2000 and 2011, he co-presented the influential television programme Patito’s Gang, founded by Professor Pat Utomi.

He also served on the Governing Council of Olabisi Onabanjo University (2003–2007) and the Board of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (2007–2011).

He currently co-anchors Arise TV’s flagship morning programme, The Morning Show, as well as ThisDay Live on Arise TV and City Talks with Reuben Abati on City 101.5 FM.
