Dortmund open contract talks with Adeyemi after Jorge Mendes switch

Borussia Dortmund have begun contract discussions with Karim Adeyemi following the forward’s decision to join super-agent Jorge Mendes.

Adeyemi, who is currently tied to the Bundesliga side until 2027, has boosted his profile in recent weeks with standout goals against Juventus in the Champions League and Wolfsburg in the league.

Dortmund want to secure his long-term future, with talks aimed at extending his deal to 2029.

Mendes Steps in

According to Sky Sport, sporting director Sebastian Kehl has already held preliminary talks with Mendes, whose influence is expected to shape both the structure and financial terms of any agreement.

Mendes has reportedly assured Adeyemi he will play a key role in defining the next phase of his Dortmund career.

This marks Adeyemi’s third change of representation in the last year, but his new agent enters the negotiations with significant leverage thanks to the forward’s recent form.

Wages a key issue

The 23-year-old currently earns around €6 million annually, already placing him among BVB’s highest-paid players.

Any renewal could lift his salary closer to the €7m bracket occupied by Gregor Kobel and Serhou Guirassy. Dortmund are keen to reward his rise but remain wary of disrupting their wage structure.

What’s next

Adeyemi has delivered 28 goals and 21 assists in 112 appearances for Dortmund since his arrival.

Talks are set to continue in the coming months, with the club eager to finalise terms before his contract runs into its final two years.

The Nigerian-born German international is expected to feature again when Dortmund face Mainz this weekend.
