“Don’t Sell Your Votes For Rice, Cash” — ADC’s Adesua Warns Electorate

African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship aspirant in Ekiti State, Ayodele David-Adesua, has warned the electorate against being deceived by rice gifts and cash inducements from politicians.

He cautioned that such acts often lead to poor governance and underdevelopment, urging voters to make informed choices ahead of the June 20, 2026, governorship election.

David-Adesua gave the warning on Saturday, while declaring his intention to contest for the ADC ticket at his hometown, Ijesa Isu Ekiti.

He urged residents to reject any form of material inducement that could sway them from electing credible leaders.

“Do not be deceived with bags of rice and little cash during electioneering, which may make people change their minds from voting for the right leader,” he said.

“The result of being swayed by such gifts has always been incompetent leadership, poor governance, and lack of development, as is the case in Ekiti now.”

He further stated, “Our people must understand that those who give you rice and money during campaigns are simply investing in their future corruption.

“Once they win, they will recover every kobo spent on campaigns through inflated contracts and neglect of the masses.”

The aspirant promised that if elected governor, he would address the underdevelopment facing the state through a people-focused administration.

“My growth-centred administration will implement open-door policies, empower youth and women, and foster development across the state,” he added.

Adesua also said, “I’m not coming into politics to enrich myself. I’m coming to serve and rebuild Ekiti. We can no longer afford to sell our votes for crumbs and expect transformation.”

He commended the unity and cooperation within the ADC in Ekiti, saying it showed readiness to take power in 2026.

“The ADC family in Ekiti is united and prepared. Our focus is on restoring the people’s confidence in government and creating a prosperous future for all,” he said.

Meanwhile, other ADC leaders, including Prof. Kolapo Olusola-Eleka and Chief Kayode Eegunjobi, urged party members to uphold peace and integrity during the party primaries.

The primaries, scheduled between October 20 and November 10, 2025, by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), will determine the party’s flag bearer for the 2026 Ekiti governorship election.

Prof. Eleka said, “We must show Nigerians that our party stands for honesty, development, and people-first governance. The coming election is a chance to prove that change is possible in Ekiti.”
