Stan Alieke, former counsel to singer Speed Darlington, has advised single men to ensure they have a steady income before considering marriage.
In a post shared on Instagram on Saturday, Alieke stressed that financial preparedness is crucial to avoiding marital crises. He cautioned men not to succumb to societal pressure to marry when they are not ready.
He explained that going into marriage without financial stability often results in hardship, noting that it is wiser to marry later than to struggle as a young, broke husband.
According to him, financial struggles are one of the leading causes of divorce, sometimes even more difficult for couples to deal with than infidelity.
He clarified that financial stability does not necessarily mean being wealthy, but having a secure and reliable income.
Alieke wrote: “This might sound insensitive but as a guy, if you are not financially stable don’t think of getting married – don’t let society pressure you into marriage, it’s better to marry late than to marry as a struggling guy – you’ll see shege. One of the leading causes of divorce after infidelity is that the guy is broke; in fact, ladies tolerate a cheating husband more than a broke man. Being financially stable doesn’t mean you’ll have all the money but at least have a solid source of income.”
