Professor Biodun Akinpelu of the Faculty of Education, Lagos State University (LASU), has admonished government at all levels to display responsibility for personnel recruitment, staff development, capacity building and infrastructural provisions for every segment of our educational system.
He said: “Education holds the master key that unlock community potentials towards transformation and sustainable development.
“It stands as an instrument of self-reliance, social reconstruction and economic development.”
Akinpelu, the guest speaker during the graduation , speech and prize giving day at the Christ the King International College, Ife Odan, Osun State, maintained that “today, the focus of our leaders towards education and by extension, national development, has been highly distorted. Sad to say the future is bleak.
“In spite of the fact that education is seen, the world over, as a tool for lasting liberation of the mind, and a reliable weapon for creativity and as a veritable tool for societal transformation from generation to generation, the journey, in the education sector, within the past years has not been easy in our country.
“The glaring economic down-turn has seriously and negatively affected the meaning and essence of education in the land, and this has become issues of concern at all levels of education in our country.
“I, therefore, commend the Proprietor, the academic and administrative teams of the Christ the King International Schools for their purposive efforts.”
According to him, “I have been in the vanguard of emphasising the place of quality education for meaningful personal and societal development for quite some decades.
“I stand as a product of a quality educational system that produced exceptional minds who have made their marks in the economic, political and social landscape within and outside our country, Nigeria, thereby bringing our nation to global recognition.”
He commended the parents for still endeavoring to bring their “children to school in the current situations of uncertainties, you stand as one of the great heroes of our time.
“The quest for the Nigeria of our dreams where socio-economic challenges are addressed as envisaged by all, can only become a reality when we grant education its rightful place as a major tool for personal and societal growth and development.”
