Don’t jump ship, Kaduna appeal committee chair begs PDP members

5 days ago 15

The Chairman Peoples Democratic Party Appeal and Reconciliation Committee Kaduna state chapter Shuaibu Idris Miqati, has appealed to members of the party not to dump the party, despite their grievances.

According to Idris Miqati, it was not a sufficient reason to dump PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC) since an Appeal and Reconciliation Committee had been inaugurated by the PDP.

In a statement on Tuesday in the aftermath of the PDP local government congresses, the PDP Appeal and Reconciliation Committee Chairman assured there were commitments on the part of the committee to make amends where irregularities were established

He also said the committee members had commenced work in ernest with maximum support of party elders and leaders.

The committee leader noted that  disagreements, differences, and challenges were customary and necessary in any gathering of people no matter the level of homogeneity, wondering whether leaving the party would be justifiable.

The statement read, “It’s indeed a very sad and most worrisome development. While there are indeed issues as regards a number of events like party congresses and primary elections leading to the emergence of flag bearers in the last local governments elections, it’s not sufficient a reason for people to jump ship more so that an Appeal and Reconciliation Committee has been inaugurated by the PDP.

“The committee has commenced work immediately and in ernest with maximum support of Party elders and leaders. There are commitments to make amends where irregularities are established.

“With this development, can taking a leave from the party be justifiable?

“While people may have reasons to change their affiliation to a party, disagreements, differences, and challenges are customary and necessary in any gathering of people no matter the level of homogeneity.

“Moreso if they are living in truth and honesty. Absence of disagreements in groups may posit hypocritical behaviour. This is what is essential for people to bear in mind. It’s a painful lost but such is life and life is not constant.

“The PDP could have done better if the congresses were held slightly in better condition, circumstances, and processes. Grievances from events such the exercises in question is not unexpected.

“Moreover, reaching out early to aggrieved party members as well as addressing the grievances of party faithfuls much earlier would have stem the tide.

“Politics is dynamic and change just as challenge is permanent feature. You would see more defections from the APC to PDP soon. Be ready, be prepared, and watch out with care and calmness for the unfolding scenarios”.
